This time last week, we’d had a week of near daily drizzle even though there were sunny spells in between the showers. It added up to an impressive 8.25 inches over seven days, so needless to say when I decided to walk down to the field and look around, I put on my rubber boots…
First I crossed little Pine Branch, who is quite happy with all the rain. A firepink/cardinal flower adds some lovely color.
There are some maple leaves turning, some signs of fall coming around the bend. And mushrooms, LOTS from the rain. Here’s a little tiny one.
Nearby in the shade of the treeline there are thick beds of moss that are such a lovely green and so springy under your feet. They look like tiny ferns. Random grape pictured for size, dropped there by someone who has been pilfering the grape vines nearby.
Pine branch enters the woods here, shady and quiet. This is a magical spot. It’s so cool and green it’s easy to stand a long time just breathing in the sweet smelling air. You can lose track of time.
The witch hazels nearby are just starting to bloom their tiny yellow tassels. A little sprinkle of rain is starting up again.
Next afternoon walk I’ll head up into the woods and see how the season is changing the land there. Thanks for taking a walk on a rainy afternoon.
